BARNYARD YOGA, OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS, AND TURKEY TROT COMING TO LIBERTY
Liberty Lorton Announces 2019 Events Series
Liberty Lorton, the former prison turned new development, is hosting a series of events that includes barnyard yoga, outdoor movie nights, and the second annual Turkey Trot.
The series kicks off with barnyard yoga events such as
Bunny Meditation featuring friendly lionhead rabbits and
Goat Yoga classes taught alongst curious baby goats.
Our family-friendly
outdoor movie night series includes the following movie titles: “Rio,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Princess Bride,” and “Ice Age.” Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and plenty of snacks for a fun summer night under the stars on the former prison’s baseball field.Liberty will offer modern amenities for residents while largely preserving the architectural features of the historic buildings and surrounding campus. Buildings will be adapted and repurposed for residential and commercial use in the Liberty community, honoring the rich history of the Lorton Reformatory site.
Lorton residents will begin to see construction activity at the walls of the former penitentiary, located at the intersection of Silverbrook Road and White Spruce Way. Two openings will be made in the wall to facilitate the installation of utilities that will serve the Liberty mixed-use community. These openings, and up to three other openings, will eventually provide vehicular access to the retail and commercial center that is proposed for development within the walls of the former penitentiary in a second phase of the project.
The
second annual Turkey Trot and Fun Run will be held the Saturday after Thanksgiving allowing participants the chance to run off those leftovers on a 5K course throughout the historic former prison campus.
Events are open to residents and non-residents of Liberty alike.
