Where: Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton

Why we love it: The 100-year old Beehive Brick Kiln is the only remaining oven of the original nine that made the bricks used to construct the Lorton Reformatory and Occoquan Workhouse. Thousands of these original bricks are still in use at Liberty Lorton just down the road. The central tower and uniquely-shaped oven create thumb-stopping content for #VirginiaHistory lovers of all ages.

Where: Liberty Lorton in Lorton

Why we love it: Okay, how could we not include our own on-site views in this list? The original guard tower structures at Liberty are still in place and are under restoration for future public access as part of our adaptive reuse approach. These tall brick landmarks offer a unique photography option to play with lighting and angles. We suggest coming by for a #VASunset shoot to get the best photos.

Where: High Point Road in Lorton

Why we love it: Lorton’s Mason Neck State Park is already one of our favorite parks around town, but it offers more than just adventure and fresh air. The wide variety of locations like wetlands, fields, and trails in the park means you can capture photo-ops by kayak, on foot, or by bike. The #VAStatePark opportunities are endless!

Where: Occoquan Historic District in Occoquan OR Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton

Why we love it: By land or by sea, the Occoquan River has some of the best scenic views in Northern Virginia. On the Fairfax County side, visit Occoquan Regional Park for lunch at the Brickmakers Café and hiking trails along the water. On the Prince William County side, visit Historic Occoquan to rent kayaks and walk over the footbridge by the Mill House Museum. Take a photo on the bridge so you can use #VisitPWC and #FXVA on one post!

Where: Richmond Highway in Alexandria

Why we love it: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House was practically made for Instagram. This National Trust for Historic Preservation site beautifully displays one of the hundreds of houses built by Wright in the 20th century to combine architecture and nature to give visitors the best of both worlds. Pay a visit to the property during the annual needlework show at the Woodlawn Mansion which shares a lot with the Pope-Leighey House to check two of the most Instagrammable #SavingPlaces locations off your list at once.
